'You Had One Job': Amazon Prime Day Falters, Twitter Pokes Fun

SEATTLE, WA — It’s Amazon Prime Day and shoppers across the globe hoping to score steep discounts were instead met with a giant picture of a dog and a simple message: “SORRY! Something went wrong on our end.” Prime day has become one of the biggest shopping days of the year, with great deals on various electronics — including smartphones — and even kitchen essentials.

But some links on the online retail giant’s landing page weren’t working Monday afternoon. Most of them redirected potential customers either to an error page or to a landing page that sent them right back to the main landing page, TechCrunch reported. The news outlet said direct links to the products appeared to function just fine.

Prime Day was slated to kick off at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday and last 36 hours. Amazon acknowledged there was an issue in a statement Monday afternoon.

“Some customers are having difficulty shopping, and we’re woking to resolve this issue quickly,” the company said in a statement. “Many are shopping successfully — in the first hour of Prime day in the U.S., customers have ordered more items compared to the first hour last year. There are hundreds of thousands of deals to come and more than 34 hours to shop Prime Day.”

Once Amazon corrects the problem, you can find the best Prime Day deals here.

As only the internet can, a chorus of social media users ripped Amazon for the snafu. While some questioned how Amazon could not be prepared for a holiday of its own creation, others gave their own opinions on who may be behind the failure.

Here are some of the best reactions we’ve seen:
