Workers Rescued From 'Violently Swinging' Cradle Atop High-Rise

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Two window washers were rescued on Wednesday morning after the cradle carrying them began to swing violently while at the top of an Oklahoma City skyscraper.

Firefighters were called to the scene at Devon Tower at around 7:43 a.m. Located in the downtown area, the 50-story tower is the tallest building in Oklahoma City. Fire officials said at a press conference that the cradle had broken some windows in the building.

The crane the cradle was attached to stopped working once its safety features became activated due to high winds, officials said.

Officials were able to get the crane to function and then lowered ropes to the cradle to stop the swinging motion.

Once the cradle was secured, the two workers were rescued. The operation lasted a little over 45 minutes and the workers were rescued by 8:30 a.m.

The workers were evaluated and refused further treatment or transport to the hospital.
