I think of a lot of things when I think of Valentino. I think of studs, smooth leather, and vibrant patterns. I think of structured silhouettes, particularly totes. But sometimes, Valentino likes to wander into crazy outside-the-box territory. Don’t believe me? Well, let’s just say that entomology is not one of the things that comes to mind when I think of Valentino. And yet, here we have a piece from this designer with a big bug on it.
Don’t get me wrong. I love scarab beetles. Okay, I lied… I love beetles, period. There is just something whimsical, even magical, about them. They look awesome on jewelry, so why not on a handbag too? What piqued my curiosity with this piece is the placement of the scarab beetle. It isn’t on the front, like you would expect. Instead, it sits perched on the corner of this clutch, almost as if it were begging you to hold on to it like a handle. Probably not a handle in the traditional sense, but one does have to wonder if a finger would fit in the opening it creates. Oh well, I think it looks nice regardless. And the fringe? That is just icing on the cake!
Find it at Neiman Marcus. Retails for $1875.
