This ’80s Rom-Com Star Is Heading to HBO

If you, like me, were born in the wrong era and are, at your core, an ‘80s teen, you know that Say Anything is the best rom-com of all time.

Boom boxes. Trench coats. John Cusack. Joan Cusack. It has it all.

But the true linchpin of the 1989 classic is its female lead, Ione Skye.

As precocious valedictorian Diane Court, Ione Skye is the perfect foil to Cusack’s sensitive floater, Lloyd Dobler. But while Cusack still has leading-man status, Skye’s acting career has seen less momentum in the decades since.

With the exception of an occasional guest spot or supporting role in an indie film, she has avoided the glare of Hollywood’s spotlight — until now, that is.

Skye, alongside Jennifer Garner, Juliette Lewis, and David Tennant, stars in HBO’s new dramedy, Camping. If that sentence piqued your interest, just wait, it gets better. The series, which is adapted from a British comedy of the same name, comes from the creative forces behind Girls, Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham.
