The Whimsical and Quirky Patricia Chang Mouse Satchel Bag

Patricia Chang is not the first designer to do an animal-inspired handbag, let alone the first to do a mouse-inspired handbag. So when I saw the Patricia Chang Mouse Bag, something about it just called to me. The Korean American designer is currently based in New York City and her first bag collection debuted in Fall 2012. She is known for bringing together “the wearable and the whimsical.” Maybe the whimsy is what called to me. After all, I am a sucker for animal motifs and this mouse is just so sweet. I find it hard to resist!

This Patricia Chang Mouse Bag is very simple in its design. The pouch-like shape reminds me of a makeup bag. Unlike a makeup bag, however, this piece has a shoulder strap. The mouse was created simply by adding ear appliques and studs for eyes. The tail is created by a looped piece of leather that is actually the zipper pull. This piece comes in a variety of colors, most of which are pastels. But I really like this version here. The dusty pink is delicate and neutral. I would even call it a “nude”. This is a novelty piece, for sure. But for less than $200-$250, who cares! You could get one in every color if you wanted.

The Patricia Chang Mouse Bag is available here at ShopBop, retails for $195 (small) $250 (large).
