Super Rugby Team of the Week: Round 15

The Brumbies clinched the Australian Conference title in round 15 as the rest of the Aussie teams faltered.

Here’s who caught our eye.

1. Tom Robertson

Heads into Wallabies camp fresh off another strong performance.

Held up his side of the bargain at set piece time and carried with purpose.

2. Andrew Ready

Great return to the starting gig in a roller coaster season for the young hooker.

Made his usual impact at the breakdown, held his own at both scrum and lineout time and worked his tail off with every touch of the footy.

3. Taniela Tupou

Tupou has potential in spades and we got a glimpse of what he is capable of against the Blues.

Scored a double and had 10 runs for a pair of tackle busts, a line break and an offload.

4. Izack Rodda

Blistering return to the starting XV.

Ran the lineout with aplomb in place of Rob Simmons and added consistent gain line runs with ball in hand.

5. Will Skelton

Responded to being left out of Michael Cheika’s Wallabies squad with a big performance.

Has added some impact to his lame and infrequent carries in the first half of the year.

6. Ned Hanigan

Just keeps getting better.

Puts his hand up for carry after carry and never goes missing on the defensive end.

7. Chris Alcock

A massive game from a player that may have been a touch stiff in missing Cheika’s squad.

Amassed 21 tackles and three pilfers.

8. Scott Higginbotham

Kept the Reds’ head above water when they were struggling for momentum through the first quarter before kicking onto another big performance.

Has to be a big chance of starting Saturday night’s clash with Fiji.

9. Jake Gordon

A fitting replacement for Nick Phipps, given they have chopped and changes as the starting halfback for the Waratahs.

It may have been this performance that got him over the line as he was his energetic, clean self.

Has a knack for sniffing out opportunities around the breakdown and gets to the back of the ruck as quick as any other scrumhalf in Australia.

10. Bernard Foley

Showed why he will be one of the first picked for Saturday’s first Test.

Tough to judge a flyhalf when he is behind a beaten pack but made the most of limited attacking opportunities to accumulate 12 runs for 65 metres, a tackle bust, three line breaks and three offloads.

11. Cam Clark

Toiled away on the left wing and was often seen infield hunting for work.

Managed 13 runs for 85 metres, two tackle busts, two line breaks and a try.

12. David Horwitz

Continued his stellar form with another nice outing, keeping the ball alive with three offloads and two line breaks.

Boasts a solid attacking package as he is quick enough to slip through holes himself but is also more than capable of facilitating proceedings as a second playmaker.

13. Tevita Kuridrani

He doesn’t have Samu Kerevi to contend with anymore but that didn’t stop Kuridrani from having a big night against the Rebels.

There were a pair of handling errors in the outing but he led the Brumbies defensively, scored a try and was his usual line bending self in his six carries.

14. Henry Speight

He’s been the form winger in Australia all year and that didn’t change on Saturday.

Wasn’t his most explosive performance but still amassed 63 metres from 10 runs.

15. Dane Haylett-Petty

Hasn’t missed a beat since returning from injury.

Was a shining light in a Force performance blunted by a rampant Hurricanes side.

Carried the side with a try, 12 runs for 53 metres, two line breaks and an offload.
