I don’t know what it is, but Yves Saint Laurent has certainly taken a new direction handbag-wise in recent years. Perhaps it began when Hedi Slimane took over as creative director, it is hard to say. Many of the classics are still there, but some more unusual styles have also been thrown into the mix. In fact, some of these styles are so out of character that I would not have recognized them as belonging to this designer if it wasn’t for the continued use of the YSL logo. And, as you can see, that is exactly how I felt when I saw the Saint Laurent Monogram Flat Bucket.
Just look at this style and tell me you instantly think YSL. I dare you! Studs? Tassels? Less than structured shape? Yep, these features are not screaming YSL. I am not necessarily saying this is a bad thing. But I do think it will take some getting used to. After all, this is no Sac de Jour. The unusual “flat bucket” shape is rather intriguing though. I love the slouchy look and feel. Plus the studs and tassels give this piece a tough girl-like quality. Who could possibly argue with that?
