Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev can remain Monaco owner for the time being

L’Équipe report today that the sanctions carried out by the European Union on Russian oligarchs in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine do not pose a risk to Dmitry Rybolovlev’s Monaco ownership for the time being, but that situation could change.

Rybolovlev can still maintain his 66.6% stake in the club and retain his role as president, however according to L’Équipe‘s government source subsequent sanctions could see oligarchs barred from taking part in French companies, with the state of Monaco following the sanctions set out by the EU.

The French authorities are working on an inventory of the 488 Russian entities and 26 oligarchs targeted with sanctions, a list which Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire has said could grow. Rybolovlev does not feature on it.

French football itself has no intention of boycotting or excluding Monaco from domestic competitions, a view echoed by Nice manager Christophe Galtier.
