PSG have established a 5-man shortlist to replace Unai Emery

RMC report this afternoon that PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi is now in an enormously reflective period following Real Madrid’s elimination of Les Parisiens last night from the Champions’ League and is considering a total overhaul of the coaching, scouting and transfers side of the club.

Among the options that Al Khelaifi is considering is to sack Unai Emery immediately and to bring in assistant coach Zoumana Camara or assistant Sporting Director Maxwell in as manager until the end of the season in the interim. PSG feel as if they need to send a strong message after an enormous summer window produced no results.

PSG’s number one target to replace Unai Emery is Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who Les Parisiens are aware they will not be able to lure to the French capital until the summer – one can assume that initial contact has already been made indirectly.

Luis Enrique is another individual that has been mentioned in Paris circles, having recently made a trip to Doha, where the PSG owner resides, and with the support of several current PSG players who he has previously worked with like Dani Alves and Neymar. Chelsea are also in talks with him however, and Enrique is currently a secondary option for Les Parisiens at the time of writing.

The third name on the list, which PSG accept is a bit of a fantasy but not one that they do not intend to explore, is Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola – they are waiting to see if the Catalan manager will or will not want to remain in the Premier League, and one can therefore assume that they will contact him shortly.

Antonio Conte, who looks resigned to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, is not a high priority at the moment, certainly not as much as the Italian press might lead you to believe, but the likely availability of such a top coach in the summer keeps him on PSG’s radar. Finally, to round off an impressive list of names, current free agent Carlo Ancelotti completes the list – a return could interest the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss.

One name missing from the list is Atletico Madrid man Diego Simeone, who PSG representatives have fallen out of love with because he took advantage of his name being linked with the capital club when they were pursuing him during their quest to replace Laurent Blanc in order to secure himself a considerable wage rise and a new deal with Atletico Madrid at the time in 2016.
