Protesters heckled Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez at a state convention in California over the weekend, chanting, “aye, oh, corporate greed has got to go.”
“We are booing because we feel Perez is part of the establishment that keeps co-opting the progressive movement,” Gilbert Feliciano, a state delegate who participated in the protest, told a local news outlet. “The corporatists have an ally with Tom Perez. We felt like it was important to come and voice our discontent.”
Members of the California Nurses Association, according to the Sacramento Bee, joined the protest to pressure state lawmakers to support a bill that would aim to provide a single-payer, statewide healthcare system.

The nurses union opposed Perez and supported his opponent in the race for DNC chairman, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.).
Before Perez even took the stage, California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton told protesters to “shut the f— up and go outside.”

“This gathering kind of reminds me of Thanksgiving dinner at my house with my extended family,” Perez reportedly said in an attempt to shrug off the protests.
