PLAYER RATINGS | Trabzonspor thrash Monaco to throw Europa League group wide open

UEFA Europa League, Round 4, 13/10/22

Trabzonspor – 4

Ugurcan Çakir – 6

Eren Elmali – 6

Stefano Denswil – 6

Marc Bartra – 5

Hüseyin Türkmen – 5

Jean-Philippe Gbamin – 7 – The Everton loanee was sublime throughout. He brought a serenity to Trabzonspor’s game, even at the beginning of the tie when his side were struggling to maintain possession. He won all of his duels (both ground and aerial) and was a progressive passer that became increasingly influential as Trabzonspor grew into the game.

Marek Hamsik – 6

Enis Bardhi – 7 – The midfielder provided a moment of real class, sliding a Lionel Messi-esque free-kick under the wall and past Nübel. The scorer of Trabzonspor’s third, he single-handedly put the game beyond the Monégasques.

Anastasios Bakasetas – 6

Djaniny – 6

Umut Bozok – 5

Others: Hugo (7), Trézéguet (7), Siopis, Erdogan (N/A)

AS Monaco – 0

Alexander Nübel – 3 – The most guilty party in the mix-up that changed the match. After receiving a routine back-pass, his pass out, intended for the left-back, caught Sarr unawares. The ball ricocheted off the Chelsea loanee and into the back of the net. Prior to that, the German goalkeeper made a stringing of crucial saves, which ultimately counted for little.

Caio Henrique – 5

Malang Sarr – 4 – He was thrown in at the deep end, and made to deputise for Badiashile, who was injured during the warm-up. He didn’t swim. Whilst the finger doesn’t point firmly at Sarr for the calamitous own goal, he nonetheless had his own role to play. He could have been more aware of his surroundings as, unbeknownst to him, the ball found the back of Nübel’s goal via the Frenchman’s leg. He was also outjumped for the second goal as Monaco went on to concede four on the night.

Axel Disasi – 5

Vanderson – 5

Aleksandr Golovin – 5

Youssouf Fofana – 6

Mohamed Camara – 5

Krépin Diatta – 5

Wissam Ben Yedder – 6 – During the first half of the first-half, the Frenchman displayed some great link-up with striker partner Embolo. As Trabzonspor took the ascendency, he, like his partner, saw his influence greatly diminished.

Breel Embolo – 6

Others: Boadu (5), Minamino (4), Martins (5), Volland (N/A), Jakobs (N/A)
