MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The Empire State Building has completed the first of three projects to improve the visitor experience of its world-famous observatory.

Visitors of the iconic skyscraper’s observatory will now enter the building on West 34th Street instead of Fifth Avenue in an entrance with more space and a better-organized flow, the Empire State Realty Trust announced this month. The new entrance is solely for observatory visitors, which will improve the lives of office tenants who no longer have to compete for space with 4.2 million observatory vistors.

“Our leadership in innovation continues with this transformative reimagination of our entrance, the first
phase of the completely new Observatory experience,” Anthony E. Malkin, Chairman and CEO of
Empire State Realty Trust, said in a statement. “We have a high level of confidence that our work will increase customer satisfaction immensely and drive bottom-line performance.”

After observatory walk into the new entrance they will ascend a grand staircase that splits around a two-story model of the Empire State Building. The guests will then purchase tickets from brand-new electronic, self-service ticket kiosks that will simplify the ticket-buying experience.

The observatory will operate under the same schedule — 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. The Empire State Realty Trust will announce further upgrades to the observatory experience in the coming months, and the full project is expected to be complete in 2019.
