Speaking to Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi notably discussed the arrival of Lionel Messi, as well as his future plans for the club going forward.
With the Argentine forward being presented to the press this morning, last year’s second-place finishers add to a summer of business which has already seen the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma join.
On signing Leo Messi
It’s a historic moment for the club and for world football, it’s very special! Do you realise that we’ve signed Lionel Messi at PSG? It’s massive. We’re very happy and proud. We have the best player in the world.
On whether his fight against the Super League has earned him a free pass from UEFA in terms of FFP
That’s not true, we respect FFP. If you look at it closely, we’ve signed four of the best players around on a free. We’ve had an amazing window and we’ve always respected the regulations. It has nothing to do with the Super League. There are jealous people. We have a great rapport with UEFA, we’ve always been very honest with them. We’re only focused on our own project, which remains legal.
On the reaction from other European clubs

I work a lot for the ECA [European Club Association]. The club has nothing to do with that. We’ve had a project for 10 years, we know where we are going and what we need to do. We respect everyone, the regulations, other clubs and UEFA. We have a great relationship with president Aleksander Čeferin. What’s most important is the regulation.
On a potential extension of the Parc des Princes
The stadium is very small right now [capacity of around 45,000]. We need to make it bigger. We have to speak with the mayor of Paris, Mrs [Anne] Hidalgo, she’s always been by our side. I love the Parc des Princes but we need it to be bigger. Every big club has a stadium with 80,000 spectators these days, making the Parc bigger is an obligation.
