The main event for NJPW’s 48th Anniversary show has been set.
Tetsuya Naito will face fellow Los Ingobernables de Japan member Hiromu Takahashi in the main event. It will be a battle between the current IWGP Heavyweight champion and the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight champion.
In a press conference that was held this morning, Hiromu entered and asked for the match to be a IWGP Heavyweight title match. That has not been confirmed and is not listed as such on NJPW’s website.
Both men are coming off of big matches from yesterday’s New Beginning in Osaka event. Naito defeated KENTA to retain his title, while Hiromu defeated Ryu Lee.
The theme in recent years for the NJPW Anniversary show is the IWGP Heavyweight champion facing off against the Jr. Heavyweight champion. At last year’s event, then IWGP Heavyweight champion Jay White defeated Jr. champion Will Ospreay.
This year’s Anniversary event will take place on March 3rd at the Ota City General Gymnasium.
