INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Minnesota State wrestling team will enter the 2017-18 season in a tie for the 16th spot in the NCAA DII Wrestling Coaches Association Top-25 poll.
The Mavericks are one of four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams ranked in the top-25 poll. St. Cloud State is the highest rated team in the NSIC, ranked 2nd, and is joined by Upper Iowa (T-8th) and Augustana (T-23rd).
Minnesota State had three wrestlers ranked at their respective weight classes in the poll. Dylan Herman (Sr., 157 lbs.) is ranked 9th after finishing his junior season with a 23-10 mark, and a trip to the NCAA Championships. Corey Abernathy (Sr., 184) is the highest ranked Maverick, rated 4th in his weight class. Abernathy is a returning All-American following his 8th place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Matt Blome (So., 197) is ranked 5th for the Mavericks following a 28-11 campaign last season and also earned All-American honors with his 8th place finish at the 2017 National Championships.
