Rennes forward Mathys Tel has posted a farewell message on his Instagram account tonight ahead of his departure for Bayern Munich, after the Bavarians’ fourth offer was accepted by the Breton side.
The 17-year-old made just the seven appearances for the first team last season and failed to score in any, but has an impressive record with the youth teams at both club and national team level.
His €40m move – including bonuses – notably comes as the Bundesliga side were looking to wrap up a deal as quickly as possible while he was still a minor, so as to fend off potential Premier League suitors.
The player himself was won over by the prospect of a move across the Rhine, which will notably see him go straight into the first-team squad at Bayern and gain valuable playing time, as the German champions secure the services of one of his generation’s most promising talents.

“I wanted to write to you tonight to announce my departure from Rennes. It was an immense source of pride and a real honour to have worn and represented this shirt since I was 12 years old. I want to show great respect and address a big thank you to Stade Rennais, who have taught me so much, who have made me grow in every aspect, and to whom I will always be very thankful. […].”
