I have to admit, I have never heard of Mark Cross before. But I came across this curious-looking piece earlier today so I thought I should check this designer out. It turns out that Mark Cross was established in 1845 in Boston. At the time, they made saddles and harnesses. Later, they expanded their business to include luggage and other leather goods. Along the way, the company changed hands and even moved to Europe. And in 1997, Mark Cross closed its doors. It wasn’t for forever though. In fact, Mark Cross was relaunched in 2010 with a handbag collection that is like no other.
Alright, so what is this piece that caught my eye? The Mark Cross Grace Quilted Bag is what started all of this. It turns out that the Grace Bag is sort of the signature style of this designer. What I like about it most is how different it is from everything out there right now. The boxy, almost lunchbox-like shape is actually very classic. Even a bit retro-ish. I love the bright fire engine red and simple grid pattern quilting. This piece is quite adorable and perfectly sized for just your essentials. Use it to add a little pop of color to a simple black outfit.
