Premier League side Manchester City are currently leading the race for AS Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, according to RMC.
In what could end up being a battle of the two Manchester clubs, both United and City are prepared to offer €45m in order to close a deal with the Principality side.
However, other sources contacted by the media outlet suggest that City’s inability to close the deal thus far has allowed other sides a look in including Liverpool and Chelsea but above all Barcelona, who are in active discussions with the player at the time of writing.
In any case, RMC now view his departure from Monaco as inevitable, just one season after he joined the club.
Monaco will get their way with regards to price, whatever happens. Mendy does not have a free pass to the extent that Bernardo Silva has had for his move to Manchester City as he has only been at the club for a season. Anything concerning the French left-back’s future is unlikely to be finalised until after the international break.
