Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, Lille President Gérard Lopez claimed that all Ligue 1 presidents now agree that the 2019/20 season was stopped prematurely.
“Where we can all agree, and I am talking about the presidents, including those who recently changed their mind, is on the hyper-premature stoppage of the league season and the consequences, of which we don’t yet fully know. We keep saying that we are failing to catch up with the big four in Europe, that we don’t produce got results in the European competitions. It is not by stopping our league before the others that we are going to put ourselves in a position of strength either. This is a catastrophic decision.”
