WASHINGTON, DC — Former Vice President Joe Biden’s advisors are considering whether to add Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams to a 2020 presidential run. According to a report by Axios, Biden’s advisors are split on whether to add Abrams to what is increasing looking like a certain presidential bid by the 76-year-old Biden. Abrams is 31 years younger than Biden and would bring diversity and excitement to Biden’s bid, some advisors argue, while others believe that Abrams’ lack of national qualifications are a serious hindrance.
Abrams herself has said a White House bid in 2020 is not off the table, nor is a 2020 challenge to U.S. Sen. David Perdue or another gubernatorial bid in 2022.
Abrams, who unsuccessfully ran for Georgia governor last fall in the nation’s most watched governor’s race, delivered her party’s widely praised rebuttal to President Trump’s state of the union address earlier this month. Abrams has made no secret of her desire to run for political office again, whether it be against U.S. Sen. David Perdue in 2020 or a 2022 gubernatorial campaign against Brian Kemp, who narrowly defeated Abrams last November.
