Having arrived on a free transfer at PSG over the summer, Italian goalkeeper and EURO 2020 player of the tournament Gianluigi Donnarumma, has one major obstacle between him and the PSG first team in Keylor Navas. Nevertheless the 22-year-old former AC Milan keeper told Canal Supporters he’s remaining optimistic.
“PSG contacted me and wanted me, and I wanted PSG. Competition does not scare me. Keylor is an exceptional goalkeeper but I am here to play. Competition is good for us both, it allows me to grow. There is always competition in the big teams, there will be no problem. He is an exceptional person, we are friends… I want to become one of the best keepers in the world. For that you have to make sacrifices, work, stay humble – especially stay humble – that’s the main thing.”
As Donnarumma explained, he is enjoying his time in Paris, despite not yet having played any minutes for PSG.
“There’s a lot of quality. [Mbappé, Messi and Neymar] are players of an incredible level. When we face them [in training] it’s a problem! We’re a great team and we’re all here to have a great season… Having Kylian [Mbappé] on the team is exceptional, we’ve already bonded, just as with the rest of the group who welcomed me like family.”
