AURORA, IL — The City of Aurora voted in late March to distribute funds from the Aurora Strong fundraiser to the families of victims of the Feb. 15 shooting at Henry Pratt manufacturing. But the families have yet to receive any of the funds, which totaled more than $500,000, the Chicago Tribune reports.
When the unanimous decision was made to distribute the funds, the city had announced they would close online contributions, but would allow other fundraising donations to be made by check through the Aurora City Hall until the end of April. Clayton Muhammad, the city’s chief information officer, told the Tribune that Aurora is still receiving checks from fundraisers held to benefit the Henry Pratt shooting victims and their families.
In the wake of the shooting, fundraisers were held throughout the city. Events included fundraisers at Ballydoyle, Paramount Theatre and Hollywood Casino, not to mention the GoFundMe campaign created by the city. Local graphic designers also donated the proceeds from “Aurora Strong” T-shirt sales.
Muhammad told the Tribune that the funds and information for the families of the shooting victims are being reviewed with Aurora’s finance department and should come up to the city council for final approval sometime in August.
