Dimitri Payet (35) has announced in an Instagram post that he will miss Marseille’s run-in following the injury he sustained during the match against Feyenoord.
The post read: “Once again, I will not be able to do what I love doing most in this world, playing football. Having gone through final examinations today, the results are reassuring but show that, unfortunately, I won’t be able to play again this season.”
“My disappointment is huge, the pain is strong, but I’m surrounded by good people and all of your messages and support give me strength to look forward, and for me, next season starts tomorrow. The most difficult thing for me at the minute is not being able to help my teammates during this final sprint. I will, of course, be behind them and all the staff for the final three matches, which we know are important in order to reach our clear objectives.”
“Finally, I wanted to thank you for all of the love that you have given me throughout the season. That goes right to my heart, and I realise how lucky I am to play for this club, in this stadium and to live in this city.”
Payet has been instrumental in leading Marseille to the Champions League places and the UEFA Europa Conference semi-final this season, and his absence will be a big miss for a side that are still fighting to ensure a place on the podium.
