Wallabies and Force lock Adam Coleman says he wants to commit to the WA franchise, but is waiting for more certainty.
The Test starter comes off contract this season and has already spoken about his desire to stay in Australia for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
The Force, whose fate in 2018 Super Rugby is still far from certain, has embarked on a signing frenzy in recent days.
Unlike many of his teammates, though, the second rower is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the club, sparking speculation he has his eyes on a new destination.
Coleman reiterated his passion for the Force on Tuesday, but didn’t put a timeframe on any signing.
“I honestly feel like the Force are building to something special,” he said.
“The amount of recruitment that’s been done this year, a couple of leaguies, Tatafu Polota-Nau, we’re building more Wallabies within the squad and I really feel like next year we’ll build again.
“It’s (the contract) all in process, it’s just obviously it’s a massive thing, the future of the club and it’s out of my control.
“I love Perth but I just want to focus on playing these next two games for the Force and I really want to put in a good performance and so do the boys for the fans.”
Though he said making a commitment under the limbo wasn’t necessarily a huge risk, amid speculation he has already committed to a different franchise, the 25-year-old isn’t rushing his decision.
“I don’t think it’s that big of a commitment,” he said.
“The Force is a very good side and there’s a great vibe within the club.”
Coleman said there was a sense of powerlessness among the players as the decision on their 2018 fate plays out, a choice that has now stretched close to a year and almost three months beyond a notorious ‘48-72 hour’ deadline announced by the ARU in April.
“To be honest, i feel like it’s all off-field,” he said.
“We haven’t really been told much. It’s all really been behind closed curtains.
“Obviously as players all we can do is do the best we can on the field for our team.”
The Force has two more chances to play at home this season, and Coleman predicted this Friday’s showdown with the Rebels would be a
“There’s going to be a lot of emotion,” he said.
“Both sides are on the chopping block and everyone’s playing for their families and for their jobs. It’ll be a great opportunity to put on the paddock.”
The Force hosts the Rebels on Friday night, kicking off at 9:55pm AEST LIVE on FOX SPORTS and via RUGBY.com.au RADIO.
