Chinese Take Away Box Trend. Chopsticks not included.

The idea of a novelty handbag that resembles a Chinese take away box is nothing new (*cough* Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 *cough*), but it certainly seems to have become a trend recently. It began earlier this year when the Kate Spade Take Away Box Clutch stole the show when Kate Spade’s Asian-inspired collection hit the Winter 2014 runway. The simple, yet quirky design was modeled after a traditional Chinese take away box (complete with “Thank You” written on the side). What I like about this clutch most is the optional shoulder strap. As cute as the design is, that squared metal wire handle seems like it would be awkward to hold after awhile. The idea seems to have caught on with other designers as well. One that I believe is worth noting is the Charlotte Olympia Take Me Away Embroidered Silk Clutch. This clutch is more about whimsy, rather than absolute mimicry. It has that Chinese take away box shape, but it is colorful (it comes in pink, blue, or black) and fun in its own way. The exterior is made of silk and it is adorned with embroidery depicting insects and other critters. This is SO Charlotte Olympia! Her designs are always quite whimsical and incredibly unique. My only regret is that this clutch does not come with an optional shoulder strap.
