Hand-painted handbags are kind of hit and miss. No offense to Anuschka handbags, but most of them are kind of gaudy. The airbrushed look just reminds me of the lady at the state fair that used an airbrush to paint designs on T-shirts. My parents felt sorry for her so they had her make me a shirt with a horse and sunset on it. Absolutely the ugliest shirt I ever saw, although at the time I was probably in 8th or 9th grade. It was difficult to give away too because the lady painted my name on it! So you can see why I am a little wary around hand-painted handbags. That is, until I came across the Burberry Prorsum Bloomsbury!
I think the reason I am drawn to this particular piece is because the painting style reminds me of the work of artists lining the streets in Costa Rica (gosh, that was an awesome trip). The painted flowers simply jump off the grainy leather background. I love the rich colors and the simple brush strokes. What is really cool though is how those brush strokes interact with the texture of the leather. It creates an almost caulk-like look. Since these are hand-painted pieces, each handbag is unique. The design pictured isn’t the only one either. More flower designs and colors can be seen on Burberry’s official website.
The Bloomsbury bag was inspired by the British writers and artists at Charleston. Designs feature floral hand-painted leather, Scottish-woven jacquard blanket and vintage carpet.
