Today when I saw the KARA Tie Tote Bag, I thought it was part of the new Kara Ross handbag collection / line. However, it turns out KARA has absolutely nothing to do with Kara Ross. In fact, it’s a completely different designer. Launched in 2012, KARA burst onto the scene with Parsons alum Sarah Law.
According to her biography, the name KARA comes from the Japanese word for karaoke. Who doesn’t love karaoke, right?. In the beginning, Sarah Law started out designing scarves and bags for GAP. Which is interesting fact, when I look at this bag I can see it on GAP shelves!
I must admit, the KARA Tie Everyday Classic Tote is a very lovely piece. The simplicity of it really calls to me. I love the smooth calfskin leather, clean lines, and minimalist details like the tie closure. You might also notice that this tote is unlined with simple pockets on either side, making it perfect for everyday things… even trips to the farmers market. I also love the neutral colors. The nude really catches my eye, but the black version is nice too. Either one would make a great staple to any wardrobe. In fact, this tote would pair nicely with anything from business attire to jeans and a t-shirt.
