The outlet claims that Lyon may decide to replace Tanguy Ndombele with 25-year-old attacking midfielder Nabil Fékir – internally – as Sylvinho intends to play a 4-3-3 formation that would see the #10 role no longer exist. The newspaper reports that Fékir could slot into a box-to-box role as previously occupied by now Tottenham midfielder Ndombele.

That is, if the player does not receive any offers that he views as adequate. Either Fékir will be sold this summer, with OL demanding €30m in order to let him go, or he will sign a contract extension – as simple as that, at least from Lyon’s perspective.

In recent days, bids have fallen in the lap of Lyon to sign Fékir, but they all come from China and they do not correspond with the French international’s personal ambitions.

He appears to be waiting especially to see if Premier League side Arsenal’s interest in him develops into something more concrete in the coming weeks.

Representatives from the Gunners have recently made enquiries around Fékir’s situation and this has then resulted in first formal contacts occurring between the relevant parties.

But the potential for this deal is somewhat thwarted, per L’Équipe, by Arsenal’s “necessity to sell in attacking areas, notably the departure of Mesut Özil.”

If Fékir does not go, Lyon are convinced that he can undergo a positional change into a deeper-lying midfielder and fit into Sylvinho’s new look system.
