I love Alexander McQueen and I love the De Manta! If it isn’t the Skull Clutch, then it is definitely the De Manta that pops into my mind whenever I hear this designer’s name. Like many of McQueen’s classic styles, the De Manta has been reinvented many times over. It is always exciting to see the latest rendition. So many different versions seems impossible, yet more are produced every year. Doesn’t anyone ever run out of ideas? It seems as though they don’t. Or… maybe they do. I stumbled across the Alexander McQueen Feathered De Manta Clutch the other day and I am still on the fence about it.
I mean, this is the De Manta! How could you not like it, right? But this particular version is rather unusual, to say the least. The leather is super glossy, reflecting the light as you change perspective. I can handle glossy! But what’s this? The leather is cut into row upon row of zigzagging micro-fringe. The fringe is so fine that it has this feathered texture to it. Is it a shaggy black crow? I’m not sure. At least it is black because any other color would put this baby in indoor-outdoor carpet territory. I look at this clutch and I really don’t know how to feel. One thing is for certain though. It is definitely unique, even for McQueen! I suppose with the right outfit, this clutch could be pulled off. I would keep the other accessories to a minimum though.
