Anya Hindmarch Cereal Box Clutches

Anya Hindmarch’s counter culture themed collection for Fall 2014 has made quite the splash in the handbag world. You might recall my post about the Anya Hindmarch Crisp Packet Clutch that I wrote not too long ago. Well, here is another food-inspired piece from this designer. Introducing the Anya Hindmarch Cereal Box Clutches!

When I first laid eyes on these clutches, my thoughts went immediately to Olympia Le-Tan’s Book Clutches. These designs are very similar in a lot of ways. They are both box clutch designs and they both depict what I would call “everyday” items. While one is modeled after books, the other is modeled after… cereal boxes. Perhaps not as charming as classic literature, the Anya Hindmarch Cereal Boxes definitely have a cuteness about them. If the cereal boxes themselves look a little strange to you though, don’t worry. I thought the exact same thing too. Then I remembered that Anya Hindmarch is an English designer. In the United Kingdom, Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes were called Frosties and Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies were called Coco Pops. So not only are these cereal boxes, they are vintage cereal boxes exclusive to the UK! Perhaps even more interesting is what these clutches are made of. The designs are actually printed on elaphe (rat snake) leather.

From Anya Hindmarch:
“We believe your evening clutch should be as beautifully-crafted and luxurious as your jewellery. Created by a third-generation miniaudiere maker in Florence, we’ve inlaid the Imperial with shagreen – a material that’s been prized for centuries for its strength and beauty (and once used to make samurai armour).

For Autumn Winter 2014, we’ve taken the nostalgia of mini packets of cereal and created the most luxurious version possible. Inlaid with printed snakeskin, we like to think of these irreverent and playful clutches as wearable art.”
