Last night’s SmackDown, which had NXT/Performance Center wrestlers serving as the show’s first crowd in nearly three months, saw the show rise 5.4 percent from last week in viewership with an average of 2.15 million viewers in the overnight ratings.
That’s the best number for SmackDown since April 17.
The show opened with 2.143 million viewers in hour one. The second hour, which featured the Intercontinental title tournament semifinal match between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus, grew to 2.157 million viewers. Sheamus won a battle royal for his spot in the match after a hit-and-run angle at the start of the show led to Jeff Hardy and Elias being removed from the tournament.
In the 18-34 demo, SmackDown averaged a 0.35 rating, up 16.7 percent from last week. That was the best number on network TV in that category.
In 18-49, SmackDown averaged a 0.55 rating. That was down 8.3 percent from last week. It trailed Shark Tank and an episode of 20/20, both airing on ABC.
In terms of total viewers, FOX finished last among the major networks but was relatively close to NBC, which averaged between 2.2-2.4 million for its prime time block of programming.
