NDSU’s Rodriguez to wrestle at Junior Pan-American Championships June 27-29

North Dakota State University sophomore wrestler Josh Rodriguez will compete at the 2014 Junior Pan American Wrestling Championships held June 27-29 at the Hershey Centre in the Toronto area.

Rodriguez is scheduled to represent the United States in both the Greco-Roman and freestyle divisions at 60 kilograms (132 pounds). He claimed a national championship in Greco-Roman and added a fifth-place finish in freestyle at the 2014 FILA Junior Nationals held in Las Vegas on April 17-18.

The Guadalupe, Calif., native sat out the 2013-14 season as a redshirt for the Bison, posting an unattached record of 17-0 after wrestling as a true freshman in the 2012-13 season. Rodriguez’s teammate at NDSU, Matt Gray, won gold in the 74-kg freestyle division and bronze in Greco-Roman at last year’s Junior Pan American Championships held in Santiago, Chile.

Competitors in the junior division must be under 20 years old. Countries with wrestlers participating are expected to include: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, El Salvador, Venezuela and the United States, as well as a team from Puerto Rico.
