WASHINGTON, DC — A day after Attorney General William Barr published a summary of the findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia investigation, Republicans have blocked a non-binding resolution to fully release the report.
Mueller and his team investigated whether the Trump campaign and others associated with it conspired with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election or obstruct related federal investigations. Mueller determined, according to Barr that neither the Trump campaign nor anyone associated with it “conspired or coordinated” with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election. Mueller also chose to punt on obstruction of justice allegations. Barr and deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein said there was insufficient evidence to support the allegations.
On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked a non-binding resolution to fully release Mueller’s report. Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer tried to quickly pass a resolution urging the public release of the report. Schumer said Monday that since President Donald Trump supported releasing the report, “there’s no good reason for anyone to object.”
But McConnell disagreed, blocking the resolution on national security grounds, Axios reported. Shortly after the Senate opened, McConnell objected to Schumer’s request. He said the Justice Department needs more time to wrap up Mueller’s two-year probe.

The House unanimously approved the resolution last week.
Trump had said Monday that the release of Mueller’s report “wouldn’t bother” him at all.
