It Bags- it’s been a while since that term has been used. And while there are still It Bags out there, (i.e. Rebecca Minkoff MAC, 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli, etc) the term has just become dated. Coined in the 1990’s during the explosive growth of the handbag market, designers would create one or two pieces that they would put on a pedestal, by using marketing and celebrity endorsement to make it the “bag of the moment.” Then about 5 or 6 years ago people just started veering away from using the term.. it got a bit old. But like I said, even though the term is now a tad dated, there are still “bags of the season” out there.
Stuart Vevers, the new head designer over at Coach, is famous for creating “It Bags” / “bags of the season” wherever he goes: the Luella Bartley Gisele, Givenchy Pumpkin and Mulberry Emmy were all created under his watch. Which leaves me excited to see what he comes up with next for Coach. He recently made his major debut of the Coach 2014 Bag Collection. Can’t wait to see what his It Bag ends up being. No pressure or anything..
