In the past I haven’t been the biggest fan of Stella McCartney handbags. To me her designs tend to be a bit too simplistic for the price tag. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the whole vegan thing (note: the brand itself isn’t truly vegan). I just have a hard time justifying a $1000 price tag when something isn’t made of leather. However, today I saw the Stella McCartney Botanical Bucket Bag the other day and, I must admit, it is pretty darn snazzy.
I suppose what caught my eye most with this piece is the embroidered floral pattern on the front. It depicts one simple plant complete with leaves, stems, and those gorgeous yellow blossoms. I actually find the more “natural” look quite refreshing. In fact, it sort of reminds me of those scientific vintage botanical illustrations (minus the labels) that you sometimes see used as interior decor. I also like how the flowers pop against the black background and, of course, the bucket styling. This handbag is made from Eco Alter Nappa, an innovative material with a coating created from over 50% vegetable oil, a renewable natural resource. This style actually comes in two sizes, but I like this smaller version better. It suits the floral pattern nicely, making this piece feel more whimsical and less grandma-ish. I think it would pair well with a dressier boho look.
The Stella McCartney Floral Botanical Embroidered Bucket Tote is available here at Saks Fifth Avenue.
