Today you all get to listen to my pointless rant about my experience with Louis Vuitton repairs.
The bag of topic is the Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Daniel Messenger Bag, which is no longer in production. It’s silhouette was adopted into the District Messenger Bag style. A very similar style, most people would probably confuse the two.
Fun fact: The messenger bag was originally called the Renzo, then changed to Daniel, now it’s called the District.
It all started last year, the seams of the leather piece that connects to the fabric shoulder strap started to come unraveled. At the time they quoted me $104 for the stitching and for all new hardware that connects the strap to the bag. To my surprise they replaced the whole strap and all the anchoring hardware, on both sides. When they told me this over the phone I really didn’t care too much, the strap was broken and it needed to be fixed. However when we got it back, the differences were very apparent. The strap was no longer a thick graphite grey/black canvas, but now made of thinner black canvas; the D-ring on both sides were now chunky squares; and the leather pieces that held the D-ring to the strap was now a thinner piece of leather. So we were really not surprised 2-months later, the leather strap broke on one side.
When I brought the Louis Vuitton Daniel Damier Graphite Bag back in to the Seattle Louis Vuitton, they were more than helpful as I explained to them that I was bringing it back for the same issue, and all the original hardware had been replaced at last check-up. At first the Sale Associate thought I was bringing it in for replacing the magnets in the flap. Apparently the Louis Vuitton Daniel Messenger Bag is known for having the magnetic pieces in the flap either get loose or become demagnetized. The Sale Associate told me it should take no more than 5-6 weeks and since this is a reoccurring issue that has already been serviced, that there would be no charge.
After 6-weeks of not receiving the pick-up call from Louis Vuitton, I decided to give them a ring. They informed me that it was shipped and they were working on it, should be back within a week. Was expecting the bag to be back by this point, but whatever, it is what it is.
Then 11-weeks later I gave Louis Vuitton customer service a call. Apparently, they haven’t even started working on the bag. The part needed for the repair is on backorder. My response, “so what does that mean? 3-months, 6-months, a year?” I admit, as soon as those words rolled off my tongue, I realized my response was a little snappy, but this was starting to get annoying. The response I received back is UNKNOWN…
So now that we are left in the dark as to when my boyfriend can get his bag back, he’s on the hunt for a new work bag. He’s going to need a back-up bag..
