Official | AC Ajaccio have signed goalkeeper Benjamin Leroy from Dijon

Following a flurry of incoming transfers including Nayef Aguerd and Senou Coulibaly, Dijon FCO have today announced a departure. Benjamin Leroy, a member of The Mustards since 2016, will soon be leaving Bourgogne for Ajaccio. The French goalkeeper’s move to the island of Corsica is pending a successful medical, and as such the official contract and transfer terms have yet to be announced.

Leroy struggled to find time in Dijon after a successful spell between the sticks for Évian TG from 2014 to 2016. The Frenchman’s role for Dijon was largely to play as backup or #2 to manager Olivier Dall’Oglio’s preferred man Baptiste Reynet. Being second-fiddle to Reynet limited Leroy to six appearances for Dijon during his two-year stint with the club, with just two of those coming this season.

Having faced difficulty in displacing his captain Reynet, Leroy soon made it clear that he would prefer to play for a team where he could challenge for more time on the field. In moving to Corsica and Ligue 2, the 29-year-old goalkeeper will be looking to do just that.

In Dijon’s official announcement reporting the departure of Leroy, club president Olivier Delcourt praised his backup keeper. “The position of second goalkeeper is not always easy to deal with, but Benjamin has always been exemplary,” Delcourt declared. Dijon’s president also wished Leroy well in his new challenge, as did the rest of DFCO in the conclusion of the announcement.
