Following PSG’s narrow victory on Tuesday night against Real Madrid, infamous French actor Gérard Depardieu took to Instagram to address the match winner, Kylian Mbappé. This follows the involvement of a number of figures from outside the world of football in the case of Mbappé’s potential transfer away from the French capital, including President Emmanuel Macron and Parisian Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
“I believe in you my Kylian,” wrote the 73-year-old actor. “I once met Alex Ferguson who said something magnificent about the Champions League and Zidane. He said, ‘give me 10 blocks of wood and Zidane and I’ll bring home the Champions League.’ Imagine if I saw him again! He would say ‘give me 10 blocks of wood and Kylian and I’ll bring home the Champions League.’ I think you’ll win it in any case.”
Depardieu also had a few words for Mbappé’s critics: “There’s heaps of critics who say ‘he’s got a big head!’ These are PSG fans. But that’s not what you are. You’re one of Ferguson’s blocks of wood.”
