As seen on Impact Wrestling last night, Knockouts Champion Gail Kim officially announced her pro wrestling retirement, after winning the Knockouts Title at this year’s Bound for Glory PPV.
Impact has since released footage of Kim following her retirement speech on Impact, and she admits the retirement still does not feel real to her right now and that she is in a very emotional place. Kim added, “at Bound for Glory my emotions were just all over the place, and tonight was kind of, I don’t know, sad. But it’s not real yet because I’m still here.”
Kim signed with Impact, back when it was TNA Wrestling, in 2005, before returning to WWE in 2008. She was with WWE from 2008-2011, at which time she left the company and returned to Impact Wrestling. She was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame at Bound for Glory 2016, and became the first female competitor to enter the company’s Hall of Fame. Kim was inducted at the ceremony by Christy Hemme, Taryn Terrell, Awesome Kong and then-President Dixie Carter.
During her career, Kim was a one time WWE Women’s Champion, a seven time TNA Knockouts Champion and a one time TNA Knockout’s Tag Team Champion alongside Madison Rayne.
As of this writing, Impact Wrestling has not yet announced what will happen with the Knockouts Title.
