In an extra clip from tomorrow’s Broken Skull Sessions episode, Bobby Lashley named The Undertaker, The Rock, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar, and Steve Austin as dream opponents who he never got to face or hasn’t faced yet.
Kofi Kingston turns 40 years old today, Johnny Gargano turns 34, and Bob Backlund turns 72. Today would have been the late Bobby Eaton’s 63rd birthday.
Big E wished Kingston a happy birthday: “Happy 40th birthday to one of the very best humans to ever enter this industry! I’ve been incredibly blessed to call @TrueKofi my brother for the last 7 years and counting. I’m regularly inspired by his devotion to his family & the depth of his character. I love you dearly, Kof!”

Tony Khan spoke to Sports Illustrated about next Friday’s “The First Dance” edition of AEW Rampage: “Next week’s Rampage is ‘The First Dance,’ and I think everyone knows what to expect — and everyone is very excited. We built a foundation here for what you’re going to see next week. This was a huge premiere, and there is tons of anticipation for next week in Chicago.”
Khan also said about the Rampage premiere and next Friday’s show: “This show belongs to the wrestling fans. Now is the time for more AEW on TNT and TBS. There is only more excitement to come in the weeks ahead. I’ve looked forward to this day for so long, and this was a great debut for Rampage. It’s a totally different format for us, and next week will be a very atypical episode of Rampage. I’m so excited for what is ahead next week. We’re going to give people very special wrestling television. ‘The First Dance’ is going to be a one-time, historic wrestling television event.”
When asked if CM Punk will be on next week’s Rampage, Khan said: “I can’t answer that question. But it’s a very good question to ask.”
Khan spoke about Fuego Del Sol being awarded an AEW contract on last night’s show: “That was a complete shoot. Fuego had no idea that was going to happen. Sammy was the only person I told, and Fuego was legitimately surprised to receive the contract he’s been dreaming of and chasing.”
In an interview with TV Insider, Punk was asked about his thoughts on the current landscape of pro wrestling: “I think the older the stuff is the better. I think it’s partly unfortunate that WWE owns the super good libraries in pro wrestling. I think that stuff is classic and they don’t even put it on their network. They are sitting on it. I want to watch Austin Idol versus Jerry Lawler in Memphis. I do think the landscape of pro wrestling in general really needs a kick in the d***. I think we are about there. I think there are people out there stirring the pot and causing trouble in a good way. It’s a fun world. There is nothing like it. Pro wrestling gets crapped on by a number of people. But when it’s done on a high level and it’s really good, there is nothing better.”
AEW released a promo video for next week’s Rampage.
With last night’s Rampage taking place in Pittsburgh, Shane Douglas was backstage at the show. Taz posted a picture with Douglas, Tommy Dreamer, Jerry Lynn, and Judge Jeff Jones.
Dixie Carter tweeted about Christian Cage’s Impact World title win: “This makes me very happy. I will never forget how special it was when @Christian4Peeps 1st became @IMPACTWRESTLING World Champ. I always hated losing him to @wwe. Welcome home Christian & massive props to @AEW for allowing these type of matches to happen. #makingwrestlingfunagain”
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Preston “10” Vance said he doesn’t want there to be a new leader of the Dark Order: “I don’t want a new leader of the Dark Order. In my eyes, you’ll never replace Brodie. The only one that would make sense, and it’s very long-term storytelling, is if his son would be 10 years down the road.”
In his Eck’s Files column for ROH’s website, Kevin Eck teased that some wrestlers who were recently released from another promotion could be appearing at ROH’s Death Before Dishonor PPV on Sunday, September 12: “I’m hearing that some talented wrestlers who were recently released from another organization could be appearing at Death Before Dishonor. Let the speculation commence.”
ROH also tweeted yesterday: “With all of the recent releases, who from @WWENXT would you like to see compete in ROH?”
Mick Foley posted a video paying tribute to his trainer Dominic DeNucci. DeNucci passed away at 89 years old on Thursday.
Lee Moriarty will face off against Laredo Kid at Black Label Pro’s “Ground Control to Filthy Tom” show at the Grand Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on Saturday, September 4.
