MINNEAPOLIS — Both teams claimed five individual victories, but two technical falls and a major decision for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse proved to be the difference in the match, as the Eagles topped host Augsburg College 20-16 in a wrestling dual meet on Thursday evening at Si Melby Hall.
Wisconsin-La Crosse (16-3 overall), ranked No. 5 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national rankings, built a 10-3 lead after three bouts on Augsburg (5-6 overall), the No. 20-ranked team nationally. The Eagles led 20-9 after eight bouts, before the Auggies claimed wins in the final two bouts of the evening.
Augsburg’s Chad Johnson (JR, Ferryville, Wis./De Soto HS), the defending NCAA Division III national champion and current top-ranked heavyweight nationally, improved to 29-1 on the season with a 10-2 victory over Cody Endres (SO, Lodi, Wis.) in the final bout of the night. Johnson claimed four takedowns and 4:03 riding time en route to the win.
