As reported by Foot Mercato yesterday and confirmed by RMC on Tuesday, Ligue 1 side Lille, who last week appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, are in active negotiations with fellow French 1st division side Clermont over the possible acquisition of centre-forward Mohamed Bayo.
The 24-year-old forward scored 14 goals and provided 5 assists for Clermont during their 1st campaign in the French 1st division last season.
LOSC’s bid is believed to be worth between €9m to €11m, which is not viewed as enough for Clermont who are looking for around a €13m base plus bonuses – negotiations continue between the two clubs.
Bayo also has interest from German outfit Hertha Berlin, who are believed to have entered into talks with the player’s entourage. However, Bayo believes that a move to a higher status French club makes the most sense for his career in the short-term, and therefore Les Dogues have a strong chance of concluding the deal if they can finalise a fee agreement with Clermont in the coming days.
Under contract until 2024, Bayo has made it clear in public and in private that he fully intends to leave Clermont.
